19-Year-Old Boy Sentenced To 9 Years Imprisonment For Defilement
The Kibi Circuit Court sentenced Kwadwo Boateng, a 19-year-old boy, to 9 years in prison for defilement.
The prosecuting officer, Detective Inspector Salifu Kamal Gumah, told the court that the accused had s*xual relations with the victim without her knowledge when narrating the case to the court.
According to him, on February 21, 2020, at around 7:00 pm, the victim was en route to her grandmother’s together with her two sisters when they met the suspect.
The accused is said to have offered a drink to the victim, before ordering her companies to head home.
He said that the victim felt dizzy after taking the drink and went unconscious. He said that the accused took the victim to his room and had carnal knowledge of her while she was unconscious.
The victim regained consciousness the next morning and felt pains in her private part and saw blood as well. She also noticed the accused sleeping next to her naked.
The family of the victim realized that she has been away the whole night and lodged a complaint at the police station. They proceeded to the hospital for a checkup which report came out that she has been raped.
The suspect was arrested immediately and arraigned before the court. The police charged the accused, Kwadwo Boateng for defiling a female under 16 years of age contrary to section 101 of Act 29/60.
Since denied having committed the crime at the preliminary investigation period, the charged entered a guilty plea and justification in court.
He was convicted and sentenced to 9 years imprisonment at his own plea.
